Frequently Asked Questions

We have an existing deck so can we re-use the framing and just install new decking and railings?

  • That is called a re-deck, which we may recommend in limited situations.  However, if your deck is more than 5-7 years old, then we typically recommend tearing down the entire structure and building a new deck from the ground up to get the most value from your investment
  • Framing is the least expensive part of a new deck build, but very important in terms of supporting your new deck.  Any flaws in your existing framing that may not be noticeable with wood decking will be much more noticeable with composite decking
  • Plus, we can’t warranty the framing if it was done by someone else

We received two other deck quotes and yours is significantly higher. What differentiates Gerger Construction from your competitors?

  • We are not just another mass deck builder; our craftsmanship, attention to detail, and customer service are second to none. Don’t take our word for it – Google us and check out our customer reviews!
  • Our customers choose Gerger Construction because they want a high-quality custom deck that is built to last, and they want to work with someone who they can trust. Owner, Matt Gerger, is only an email, phone call, or text message away if you have questions at any point – before, during, or after the project
  • Gerger Construction also goes above and beyond code minimums (i.e. larger footers, 2×10 framing instead of 2×8, 2×12 beams instead of 2×10, all support posts are 6×6 – no 4×4, etc.) to ensure that your deck has the strongest foundation possible

What is a deck safety inspection?

  • According to the North American Deck and Railing Association (“NADRA”) out of over 60 million decks in the United States (~50 million residential and ~10 million commercial), it is estimated that 30 million decks are past their useful life and need to be replaced or repaired!
  • Gerger Construction is NADRA-certified to inspect the safety of your existing deck and evaluate its structural integrity
  • We perform this service for a flat fee of $250 and provide you with a detailed safety evaluation report including pictures to keep for your records

Do you build deck coverings?

  • Yes! We now offer permanent gable or shed style roofs in addition to vinyl pergolas, aluminum pergolas, and aluminum louvered roofs

Do you accept credit cards and/or offer financing?

  • Double yes! Accepted credit cards are Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover in addition to checks/cash and debit card payments (3% surcharge fee is automatically applied to all credit card payments, but not to debit card payments)
  • We also now offer several financing options, subject to credit approval – ask us for more info
  • Click here for the at-home application link to our Wells Fargo Home Projects® program. Please select “yes” to the “have you set an appointment or spoken with a salesperson” question at the beginning of the application and then enter the total amount you would like to finance (project total minus the 10% down payment) in the “estimated purchase amount if known” field.  If you leave that field blank, then Wells Fargo typically defaults to a lower line of credit – between $8-$9K – instead of seeking approval for a higher amount that you may qualify for
  • No interest if paid in full within 12 or 18 months* or special rates with equal monthly payments for 48 or 96 months!
    • Subject to credit approval and a down payment of 10% of the total project cost is required. The Wells Fargo Home Projects® credit card is issued by Wells Fargo Bank, N.A., an Equal Housing Lender. Special terms apply to qualifying purchases with approved credit
    • *Interest will be charged to your account from the purchase date if the purchase balance is not paid in full within the promotional period. Minimum monthly payments are required during the promotional (special terms) period. Interest will be charged to your account from the purchase date at the APR for Purchases if the purchase balance is not paid in full within the promotional period. Paying only the minimum monthly payment will not pay off the purchase balance before the end of the promotional period. For new accounts, the APR for Purchases is 28.99%. If you are charged interest in any billing cycle, the minimum interest charge will be $1.00. This information is accurate as of 4/15/2024 and is subject to change. Will you schedule time to come out to give us an estimate?

  • Please complete the Contact Form on our website with details about your project and pictures of the existing or proposed deck area. Once everything is received we will email your free project estimate within 5 days
  • If you’d like to move forward with the project based on the rough pricing, then we will schedule time for Matt to come out to meet you. He will get exact measurements and go over material samples with you at that time
  • After the on-site meeting, we will email you a formal proposal/scope of work for your review and signature

How do we reserve a spot on your schedule?

  • To be as fair as possible we schedule jobs first come, first served as signed proposals and start deposits come in
  • Along with the signed proposal we require a start deposit of 1/3 of the total project cost (check/cash, debit card, or credit card) to guarantee your spot on the schedule and to order materials so we can lock in your material pricing

What kind of warranty do you offer?

  • Product warranties vary with each manufacturer and line. We install mainly Trex and Deckorators decking and railing due to their robust warranties. Details regarding the different product warranties may be found at the following links: Trex warranties; Deckorators warranties
  • In addition to the above product warranties, we also offer a 2-year craftsmanship warranty on our work
